Making change at 2,755m above sea level
adidas and Common Goal team up for an environmental project in Colombia
High in the Andes at 2,755 meters above sea level in Soacha, Colombia, a project has begun to tackle the environmental challenges of the region. Long droughts, intense rainfall, landslides, and a steep slope near the local football pitch, combined with minimal vegetation and poor drainage, makes the area increasingly vulnerable.
The Guardians of the Territory project aims to restore and protect the land, centering its efforts around a new football pitch to serve as both a sports and environmental education hub. Alongside community-focused infrastructure, the initiative will empower youth to become stewards of their territory through education and hands-on engagement.

Climate adapted infrastructure:
The project will introduce sustainable, climate-resilient features to protect the community and environment:
- Reforestation and landscaping to stabilize the slope and reduce the risk of landslides.
- Rainwater harvesting system to collect and store water in tanks for irrigation of native plant species.
- Protective roof cover over bleachers for shade and shelter from rain.
- Solar-powered lighting system installed on the roof to provide night-time illumination and reduce dependence on the power grid.

Education on environmental sustainability through sports:
At the heart of the project is a youth-led education strategy, connecting sport and environmental action:
- Ten young people will be selected as “Guardians of the Territory”, joining the Playtime Leadership School.
- The youth leaders will organize four nature outings and two eco-festivals to raise environmental awareness.
- A Sport & Environmental Education guide will be created using the Tiempo de Juego methodology, using play to teach sustainability concepts to children.
