The Lumineers x Soccer Without Borders
Empowering Young Refugee Players in Colorado
We’re proud to see GOAL Projects, a collaboration between Footballco’s global soccer brand GOAL and Common Goal, bring another inspiring story to life — this time through a partnership with internationally renowned band The Lumineers.
Marking their twenty-year anniversary, The Lumineers have teamed up with GOAL Projects to design a limited-edition jersey celebrating both the band’s creative legacy and the power of soccer to unite communities. The collaboration supports the West Aurora Girls’ Soccer Team, backed by Soccer Without Borders (SWB) Colorado, an organization dedicated to creating spaces of belonging and opportunity for newcomer and immigrant youth.
The West Aurora team, who will wear the Lumineers jersey for the 2025–26 season, represents players from thirteen different countries — young women building new lives in Colorado through the shared language of soccer. Last year, the team won SWB’s Denver Global Goal 5 League, designed to promote gender equity in soccer for newcomer girls.
Proceeds from the jersey will go directly to Soccer Without Borders, helping cover league fees, new equipment, coaching, and transportation so that soccer remains free and accessible for every player.
“West Aurora’s story of new beginnings resonates so deeply with us,” said Wesley Schultz of The Lumineers. “Like these players, we found our home and our creative family in Colorado. Through this project, we want to celebrate their grit and support their dreams, on the field and beyond.”
Fans will spot tributes to the band’s journey woven throughout the design — album-inspired artwork wrapping each sleeve, a bespoke Lumineers crest nodding to Stubborn Love and Brightside, the band’s signature “eye & vine” motif expanded into a full-body pattern, and lyrics from Sleep on the Floor, alongside the number “05,” marking the year the band formed.
During their 44-date Automatic World Tour, The Lumineers surprised the West Aurora players with a road case filled with new kits, autographed jerseys, and a heartfelt video message recorded from the band.
“Soccer Without Borders was founded to use soccer as a common language — a way to build community and foster inclusion,” said Matt Kaiser, Director of SWB Colorado. “For a band as beloved as The Lumineers to reach out, see us, and form this bridge through our language of soccer means the world to SWB’s participants. We are so excited to see the West Aurora girls take the field in these new jerseys this season.”
West Aurora head coach Erin Crossley added: “I’ve had the privilege as this team’s head coach to see them grow not only in their soccer skills, but also in their English development, confidence, and leadership. It was so rewarding to see this incredible group receive such special recognition from The Lumineers — their joy when they saw the new jerseys was unforgettable.”
Soccer Without Borders serves more than 900 youth in Colorado with free soccer, academic, and leadership programs that help young people find belonging on and off the pitch.
“The Lumineers embody the perfect mix of artistic authenticity and social purpose,” said Jake Cohen, founder of GOAL Projects. “This collaboration made sense on every level. Jeremiah’s connection to youth soccer and lifelong love of the game was icing on the cake — as was witnessing him pull out a flawless rainbow kick before a recent concert.”
This Lumineers release follows the first GOAL Projects collaboration with Anderson .Paak, which supported the Oxnard Eagles, a U-9 girls’ team from the artist’s hometown in California.
“Creativity and collaboration are at the heart of every song and every soccer match,” said Mary Connor, Executive Director of Common Goal USA. “We’re thrilled to be part of this collaboration with GOAL, connecting the forces of soccer and music, and transforming them into tangible opportunities for young people at Soccer Without Borders.”
