Global IRTS

Active Project

Global IRTS is a collaborative initiative focused on tackling the critical challenge of helping refugee children and adults integrate into their new communities.

About the Project

The Global IRTS (Integration of Refugees Through Sport) project aims to strengthen the global community working towards the inclusion of refugees through sport. This initiative brings together an unprecedented partnership of UN institutions, funding bodies, global networks, humanitarian organisations, and sports institutions. It takes the international dimension of the Erasmus+ Sport program to new heights by engaging partners from both Erasmus+ countries and beyond.

The project’s primary objective is to convene and empower the IRTS community, enhancing its evidence base, credibility, capacity, and advocacy efforts. By fostering collaboration between key stakeholders, Global IRTS seeks to make sports a more effective tool for refugee integration and social cohesion.

How It Works

Global IRTS operates through three key pillars: Building the Evidence Base, Convening Global Stakeholders, and Advocacy and Awareness. It collects and analyses data on the impact of sports in refugee integration, facilitates global stakeholder meetings and online communities, and drives awareness through initiatives like the IRTS Global Forum, Global IRTS Awards, and pilot projects. By combining research, collaboration, and advocacy, the project strengthens the role of sports in fostering refugee inclusion worldwide.
