Common Goal x FOX Sports
Using the power of media to change the narrative of football
Since 2018, FOX Sports and Common Goal have collaborated to help make football more diverse, inclusive and accessible for all.
Through its commitment to the Common Goal 1% pledge in 2022, FOX Sports has dedicated at least one percent of its FIFA World Cup coverage to amplifying stories from across the football for good community. Across the tournaments in 2022, 2023 and again in 2026, this collaboration has helped bring new voices, perspectives and community-led solutions into mainstream football culture in the United States.
By using its reach, platforms and storytelling expertise, FOX Sports is helping shift the narrative of what football can represent, from entertainment alone to a powerful force for connection, opportunity and social progress.
Beyond its pledge, FOX Sports has worked alongside Common Goal to develop original content series designed to elevate football for good and highlight the role the game can play in creating safer, more inclusive environments. Through cross-platform features, public service announcements and athlete-led storytelling, these initiatives have helped increase visibility for grassroots organisations and inspire audiences to see football as a space where wellbeing, belonging and purpose can thrive.
Create the Space
Championing mental health in football
A central pillar of the collaboration has been the collective mental health initiative Create the Space, which brings together athletes, media and community organisations to promote psychological safety in football.
In 2023, FOX Sports and its parent company Fox Corporation helped launch the program pilot. As part of the organisation's support, FOX Sports and Common Goal co-created a dedicated content series featuring members of the United States Women’s National Team alongside local organisations working on mental health and wellbeing through football. Athletes including Naomi Girma, Sophia Smith and Sofia Huerta helped lead the conversation through a three-part feature series and a set of public service announcements broadcast throughout the tournament.
Released on the eve of FIFA Women’s World Cup 2023, the initiative contributed to a powerful collective statement calling for a culture of care, openness and support across all levels of the game. Over the course of the next year, FOX Sports and Common Goal hosted a series of mental health trainings for youth soccer coaches and young athletes in cities across the United States including Atlanta, Houston, Kansas City, Los Angeles, Miami and New York City.
Expanding Create the Space in 2026
Building on the momentum of previous FIFA World Cup collaborations, FOX Sports continues to support the next phase of Create the Space in 2026.
Together with Common Goal and E-Motion, the initiative is expanding its focus from awareness to practical action, equipping leaders of community organisations across North America and the Caribbean with tools to embed mental and emotional wellbeing into their daily environments.
Through a dedicated organisational cohort and blended learning programme, the partnership is helping transform teams and programmes into sustainable spaces of care, where young people, coaches and staff can feel supported both on and off the pitch.
