Focusing on behavioural change, the programme encourages children and youth to identify and pursue their dreams and also unlocks opportunities allowing them to break from the cycle of intergenerational poverty and dependence. Through Football for Life, 20 local community youth champions are employed, reaching up to 1,000 children across 10 marginalised communities every week. By meeting and playing football together with the young FundLife players, Shinji found out about the lives behind the impact statistics and gained a first-hand impression of the contribu- tion of his Common Goal pledge. Shinji Kagawa met and played football with children from Anibong, one of the communities in Tacloban most severely affected by Typhoon Haiyan, which resulted in the displacement of over 1 million children, and 7,000 casualties across the country. 20 21 FOOTBALL FORGOODMAGAZINE | AUGUST 2019 FROM PITCH TO FIELD
