In the months preceding the launch of Common Goal on 4 th  August 2017, we had many conversations with people who applauded the initiative as a “nice concept”, but feared that it “would never work in football.” Two years on, with over 100 players and managers on the team and a collective pledge of 1.2 million Euros in support of 44 organisations using the game for good, there is still much to be done, but also plenty to celebrate. In the spirit of Common Goal’s mission to unite the “two worlds of football“ - this magazine is an invitation to you to immerse yourself in a curated collection of stories at the intersection of the professional game and football’s contribution to building more inclusive, peaceful and fair societies (a field that we commonly refer to as ‘foot- ball for good’). We bring you news, feature articles, opinion pieces and photography essays from the pitch to the page: From in-depth interviews with Common Goal members, to the inspiring personal accounts of young people whose lives have been impacted by football for good, to commentary articles discussing the game’s changing nature to travel diaries of footballer’s first-hand encoun- ters with the social dimension of the game. As Common Goal continues to mature, it does so in time to the rhythm of the turning tides of global develop- ment: whether on the pitch, with burgeoning change to the women’s game in the wake of a record-breaking World Cup; or beyond it, where ever-more organisations are aligning their work towards the achievement of the 2030 Global Goals. As we work together to continuously grow Common Goal, moving ever-further from an idea, to a social movement, to a standard for the football industry, we want to thank everyone involved and wish you a great time reading the first edition of FOOTBALL4GOOD magazine – powered by Common Goal.
